Urbanbar joins forces with Free to Feed

Cooking and sharing a meal is a special experience. There’s nothing quite like sitting down to an authentic, home-cooked meal, specially prepared with traditional cultural techniques. It provides space for people to open up and share their stories.

As avid believers in the value of traditional food and excellent hospitality, the Urbanbar team is proud to announce that we’ve recently become the apron supplier for Free to Feed, a growing social enterprise that helps asylum seekers and new migrants in Melbourne find employment through cooking food and sharing stories.

Free to Feed holds cooking classes and home gatherings throughout the week with cooks from all corners of the globe. Their current talented chefs include Nayran from Syria, Niro from Sri Lanka, Charu from Sri Lanka, Hamed from Iran and Manel from Malaysia.

Launching in 2016, Free to Feed has received a lot of attention and support. They were even voted the number one cooking school in Melbourne by Time Out Melbourne in May 2017! They’re now launching a new project called Now to Launch Incubator. This program will provide refugees and new migrants in Victoria with an opportunity to take their start-up food concepts from ‘now’ to ‘launch’. They’ll be provided with:

  • A co-work space in which to test and create concepts
  • Guidance and mentorship from successful start-ups and entrepreneurs
  • An intensive 9-month start-up fundamentals course

You can support Free to Feed’s great work, and taste the results yourself, by either booking online to attend a cooking class at the Thornbury kitchen, or organising a gathering at your own home to experience a traditional meal with a group of friends. Free to Feed caters to special events and also offers corporate workshops designed for teams of all sizes.

Participants often love the experience so much that they want to take a piece of it home with them. And they can, by purchasing a specially designed Free to Feed apron.

These custom designed aprons are a high quality and versatile design, perfect for cooking class events as well as home cooking – which is why they’re great take-home gift.

At Urbanbar, we’re excited to be a small part of the growth of this exciting and impactful business, and are thrilled that our beautiful Urbanbar Design uniform design service is being put to good use in their aprons.
